Theological Jackassery
R.C. Sproul taught me to think.
Warren Gage taught me to see Christ in the whole Bible.
John Piper taught me to know passion for God’s glory.
N.T. Wright taught me the beauty of historical honesty.
John MacArthur taught me the strength of the text.
Brian McLaren taught me the value of asking questions.
The squabbling that exist among my teachers has taught me the damage jackassery can do. (Click here for a more thoughtful expression of this thought.)
I really appreciate your perspective here. It resonates with me.

You may want to reconsider your assertion;
“R.C. Sproul taught me to think.”
Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church has published its statement concerning the recent suspension of Dr. Warren Gage, Associate Professor at Knox Theological Seminary.
Read it here:

Hermes,
I’m not sure what your point is.

Rob, let me spell it out.
RC Sproul (Knox board’s leading/outspoken theologian) has egg on his face in light of the session’s conclusion.
Sproul was wrong!
But is he humble enough to admit it?!
May God have mercy on him….
so, if….“R.C. Sproul taught me to think.””
You too could soon be in his embarrassing predicament.

I’m going to assume you have missed the point of the post.

“Why not simply permit both views to be taught until the Spirit convinces God’s people generally that one view is Scriptural and the other is not?”

Hermes,
Just because the CRPC session disagrees with the decision of September 2007’s Knox Board and RC Sproul as chairman doesn’t, please note, does NOT mean that RC Sproul and the Knox Board were wrong.
If they were, please give a reason other than that the CRPC session disagreed and acted upon their disagreement.
RC Sproul resigned in protest of the session’s illegitimate actions. I say illegitimate–you can see another comment I left in response to dannydivito on the post “CRPC Statement on Knox, Gage” for a few of the reasons I say that.
Now that it’s January, we begin to see that the people who actually have egg on their faces are the new Board members, especially the current Executive Committee, and the session of CRPC. The seminary is imploding, information is getting out, and they are scrambling to both hush things up and mend the gaping chasms in their fast-sinking ship.
RC Sproul was one of the men who taught me to think, which is why when Warren Gage came along and captured my theological fancy, I gleaned much from his harvest but at the end of the day must claim, as Aristotle did of Plato and Socrates, “I love RC Sproul and I love Warren Gage, but I love Truth better.”
